Tl,dr: Drobot is cool because he was desinged to look scarier and more realistic than most other Skylanders and that is neat.Cynder is a supporting protagonist in the Skylanders series. The eyes are the window to the soul and Drobots eyes are barely visible in his orginal artwork, because he is currently using them to shoot laser beams at something.
Out of these, I want to say that Drobot is one of the best.Īrguably, Series 1 was the most creative, they had to create an identity for each element, which later Skylanders could be based on, and, of course, the designers were working with a fresh idea, rather than just continuing a brand that makes money, (though, to be clear, all series' had cool designs) and I feel like Drobot is a cool example of that.ĭrobot was part of establishing the core colors of the Tech Element, Orange and Steel Blue as a complimentary color, though Drobot actually has more blue than orange, likely to give a better contrast to the organic parts of his design, which use faded greens, and a complimentary brownish red, colors picked to resemble the color patterns of real world reptiles, rather than the bright and flashy colors a Skyland reptile might have, because a) making the actual body of drobot look more realistic helps to sell the idea that actual nature is combined with technology and b) the flashy part is meant to be the robotic enhancements.Īs an additional effect, those more natural "reptile"-colors make Drobot more realistic, in a sense, than most Gen 1 Skylanders, something the desing intentionally seems to lean into by giving his skin an actual scaly texture that no other Skylander has to this extend ( I think), which, in my mind, always made Drobot one of the Skylanders that look most genuinely threatening, and, again, I believe that was intentional, because the designers also made a point out of giving him unexpressive, insectoid looking, goggle-eyes, which, in combination with his reptilian features, really makes him look somewhat cold and calculating. In Series 1, every element aimed to have a "dragon", of sorts, due to using Spyro as a vehicle to bring an established audience into the IP, wherefore they had to assume that they would get lots of dragon fans.
